Chemical testing laboratory

In addition to pH determination tests on leather and textiles, color fastness tests to sweat and friction and resistance to chlorinated salt water tests on flotation equipment, the CRITT Sport Loisirs chemistry laboratory is equipped with ion chromatography equipment.

The equipment has two different methods, which allow testing in accordance with the applicable standards in the PPE regulations. First, the chromatograph is used to determine the concentration of the chromium VI ion (Cr6 +).

The Chromium VI ion can appear during the tanning process of leather, but being highly carcinogenic, the leather used in the product must have a level of Chromium VI ion, as low as possible. In a second step, the chromatograph is used for the determination of azo dyes in leathers and textiles. Azo dyes, also carcinogenic, must be in lower quantities in the product.
